Art does heal: scientists say appreciating creative works can fight off disease

Researchers from California University in Berkeley say studies show great nature and art boost the immune system.

The healing power of art and nature could be real after scientists discovered they boost your immune system.

Seeing such spine-tingling wonders as the Grand Canyon and Sistine Chapel or listening to Schubert’s Ave Maria can fight off disease, say scientists.

Great nature and art boost the immune system by lowering levels of chemicals that cause inflammation that can trigger diabetes, heart attacks and other illnesses.

Wherever You Go, Your Personal Cloud Of Microbes Follows

Remember Pig-Pen? The little kid from Charles Schulz’s Peanuts cartoons who walked around in a cloud of dirt? Well, the human body does spew a cloud, but instead of dirt it contains millions of microorganisms.

“It turns out that that kid is all of us,” says James Meadow, a microbial ecologist who led research about the microbes shadowing us during postdoctoral work at the University of Oregon. “It’s just a microscopic cloud that’s really hard to see.”

The findings from Meadow and his colleagues were published Tuesday in the journal PeerJ.

Each of us carries around millions of microorganisms – including bacteria, fungi and viruses — on the inner and outer surfaces of our bodies. Most of them aren’t dangerous. In fact, growing evidence indicates that they help us in lots of ways. Scientists call this collection of organisms our microbiome.

Find Us On Facebook

When I say ‘Us’ I just mean me!

I am a musician and a coach. The reason I do this is because I spent over 10 years healing major illness totally naturally without taking any meds at all. I had been told I would have ‘Ulcerative Colitis’ for life and be on medication for life. That was in 2005. I never took one tablet, and have healed myself over the years, and that healing was physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

I have no symptoms of colitis at all…In fact Im pretty well, considering I am 56 and I punished my body so much when I was young.

Power of Illness resizedSo here is the point. When I realised what was really going on, the disinformation, the ignorance, the lies, the assumptions, it did something to me and I realised I had to play my (small) part in helping get information out there. I have also written a book, on kindle right now but soon to be in print. Its called ‘The Power of Illness to Change Your Life.’ Here is a link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ULAOKBE

Harvard Study Reveals What Meditation Literally Does To Gastrointestinal (Bowel) Disorders

The hits just keep on coming when it comes to the health benefits of meditation. Research is now emerging that would justify implementing this practice within hospitals and schools (some already do) as well as including it in treatment recommendations for various diseases.

Not long ago, an eight week study conducted by Harvard researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) determined that meditation literally rebuilds the brains grey matter in just eight weeks. It was the very first study to document that meditation produces changes over time in the brain’s grey matter. Now, they’ve released another study showing that meditation can have a significant impact on clinical symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).  The study showed that elicitation of the relaxation response (a physical state of deep rest that changes the physical and emotional responses to stress) is a very big help.
